EUAM Ukraine Joins Global Campaign
November 25, 2024
Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine launches its annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, under the theme “Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls 2024.” This global campaign, running from November 25 to December 10, highlights the urgent need to combat gender-based violence, promote equality, and protect the rights of women and girls.
We celebrate the progress Ukraine has made, including the ratification of the Istanbul Convention and steps toward implementing equal pay and gender mainstreaming. At the same time, we acknowledge the ongoing need for action to tackle systemic inequality and ensure safety for all.
This year, EUAM Ukraine also pays tribute to the 140th anniversary of the Ukrainian Women’s Movement, honoring the trailblazers who paved the way for progress while recognizing the work that remains.
EUAM stands firmly alongside its Ukrainian partners, including law enforcement agencies, in addressing domestic violence, sexual violence related to conflict, and discrimination. The Mission calls on everyone to recognize that security begins at home and to work toward a society where every individual—regardless of gender, background, or status – can live free from violence and fear.
Watch the joint video address of Head of Mission Rolf Holmboe and Deputy Head of Mission Maura O’Sullivan who emphasise the critical link between gender-based violence and security.
Join us in advocating for a world free of gender-based violence. Slava Ukraini!
