Head of Mission’s Statement on International Women’s Day
March 08, 2025
Today, on the International Women’s Day, we in the EU Advisory Mission to Ukraine – EUAM – reaffirm our collective commitment to accelerating action toward gender equality.
Ukraine displays a strong commitment to human rights and gender equality, which is embedded in legislation and in official strategies and action plans. In the quest to making these efforts truly operational, EUAM integrates support for improving gender equality and against gender-based harassment in all our cooperation with our Ukrainian partners.
But significant challenges persist – especially in these times of war. Women and girls in Ukraine continue to face increased risks daily. Yet, they demonstrate extraordinary strength and resilience, inspiring us all. Ensuring their protection, participation, and empowerment requires sustained and collective actions from all of us.
We are also dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment within our own Mission, where women’s contributions are equally valued and their part in the leadership of the Mission is strengthened. Within our Mission, women currently represent 36% of our staff and 50% of the senior management.
But true gender equality extends beyond representation. It demands decisive actions, robust policies and continued support. For this, EUAM supports gender mainstreaming as a means towards gender equality, which is a fundamental part of EU legislation and commitments that all EU Member States must live up to.
Gender equality is more than an aspiration. It is a necessity for progress and a fundamental element of peace and security. Each of us has a role to play in building a future where gender equality is an everyday reality.
Embracing the commitment for gender equality is not just a commitment on this day of the year, it requires dedication every day of the year.
