EUAM Ukraine Stands with Ukraine on Human Rights Day
December 10, 2024
On 10 December, the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine joins the global community in celebrating Human Rights Day, a moment to reflect on the fundamental freedoms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted 76 years ago.
This year’s theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Now”, emphasises the importance of upholding human rights as the cornerstone of dignity, justice and equality. For Ukraine, this message has particular resonance as the country continues to face the consequences of an unprovoked war of aggression.
Human rights violations, including those against vulnerable populations, require urgent attention and action. EUAM Ukraine is committed to supporting the Ukrainian authorities in protecting these rights through robust investigations, institutional reforms and initiatives in line with EU standards.
As part of its mission, EUAM Ukraine underlines the vital role of civil society organisations, human rights defenders and journalists in promoting justice, equality and the rule of law, even under the most difficult conditions. On this day, we honour their resilience and reaffirm our solidarity with all Ukrainians working for a peaceful and democratic future.
Let’s continue to work together to protect and promote human rights – today and for generations to come.
EUAM Ukraine Head of Mission, Rolf Holmboe, and Deputy Head of Mission, Maura O’Sullivan, address this year’s Human Rights Day message and reflect on the importance of protecting human rights amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine.
