Rivne Police Officers Enhance Knowledge on Combating Human Trafficking
September 06, 2024
This week, the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine held a workshop for police officers in the Rivne region, focused on addressing trafficking in human beings (THB) crimes. Hosted at the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Rivne region, the event aimed to enhance the skills of local law enforcement by introducing the latest investigative techniques and promoting interagency cooperation to combat human trafficking more effectively.
Led by experts from the Lviv Field Office and EUAM’s Organised Crime Component, the workshop covered various aspects of THB, with a particular focus on sexual and labour exploitation. It featured case studies from EU member states, providing participants with a European perspective on handling such crimes. Officers also engaged in practical exercises designed to improve their skills in organising investigations, prioritising investigative efforts, and protecting victims.
Throughout the session, EUAM experts Gediminas Buciunas, Aimar Koss, Bohdan Denysenko, and Viktor Pozdniakov shared valuable insights into investigative methods, operational search actions, and the critical role of interagency cooperation between law enforcement bodies in preventing THB crimes.
By the end of the workshop, participants expressed a clearer understanding of how to apply European best practices in their operations, aiming for more effective responses to human trafficking cases in the region.
The European Union Advisory Mission remains committed to supporting its partners in strengthening their capabilities, with continued efforts to enhance cooperation in addressing challenges like human trafficking in the future.
